Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation

The Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation, homeland to 18,000 members of the Sicangu Lakota and 10,000 non-tribal members, is located 9 miles north of Valentine on the South Dakota line. The Reservation consists of over 880,000 acres of pine-covered hills and canyons, and rolling prairie. It is a unique area rich in Lakota history and tradition. To learn more about the Reservation and its Native American background, visit the Buechel Lakota Memorial Museum in St. Francis, or attend one of the many community powwows held during the summer months.

Take a guided tour of Crazy Horse Canyon to see 50,000 acres of magnificent terrain, or take in the scenery on your own, stopping for a picnic at Beautiful Chases The Woman Lake or the Little White River, which flows through Ghost Hawk Park. Play a round of golf at one of two courses on the Reservation - Prairie Hills Golf Course in Mission, or Spotted Tail Golf Course in Rosebud. If a faster pace is what you want, stop at the Rosebud Casino. Located on the State line 9 miles north of Valentine, The Casino offers slot machines, Black Jack, Poker, and a Prime Rib Buffet. The Casino also hosts concerts year round. Don't forget to check out the beautiful authentic Sioux handcrafted items, from quill work to quilts, available at various locations throughout the Reservation.
